Remarks:

Nepenthes cf. papuana is a typical Nepenthaceae of intermediate altitudes; it was found at one place at a mountain-ridge. It was the only area with low vegetation and small leaved shrubs in between a completely forested area. The area was very exposed; here, it was growing together with Nepenthes maxima and Nepenthes ampullaria and species of the Mrmecoid family. N. cf. papuana was the dominating species in this habitat; as the photos show, the pitchers are quite variable; lower pitchers remind somewhat at varieties of N. gymnamphora in Sumatra, but obviously, there is no direct relation to this species; upper pitchers, leaves etc. fit quite well with N. papuana; further investigations have to be done, to be 100% sure, that it belongs to this species. Not much is known about N. papuana; different to this species, it is growing usually at quite low altitudes (up to 250 above sea level), but the known morphologic characteristics fit quite well with the above species.
